Art Deco Inspiration

I have a slight obsession with Art Deco style – a swanky, elegant aesthetic that began in Paris at the 1925 L’Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs (translation: The International Exposition for Decorative Arts – but it sounds so romantic in French, no?). The Art Deco style is distinct, creating intricate, geometrical patterns while mixing dark/light tones to create high drama and contrast. It’s bold. Modern. Fearless! Magnifique!

Metallic accents give Art Deco a lusciously modern, luxurious feeling.

Geometric shapes and contrasting tones (LOVE the dark woods paired with light textiles!) are unmistakably Art Deco.

This is an entry door into the Chrysler Building in New York – it’s breathtakingly Deco and one of my favorite buildings in the world!

See that gorgeous white desk? Trimmed in dark cherry wood? That’s my inspiration for a case piece I’m refinishing into a shoe cabinet. Check back soon for the before/after!

This graciously curved entry table and contrasting metallic mirror is a subtle nod to Deco.

Ok, now I’m terribly inspired by all the Deco-ness and ready to tackle my refinishing project. Is anyone else working on a home decor project today?
